PORT AUTHORITY PROMOTES
13 POLICE OFFICERS AND COMMANDERS

The Port Authority today announced the promotions of Captain Benjamin Smith to Inspector, Lieutenant Kevin Devlin to Captain and Lieutenant Brian Sullivan to Captain. Also receiving promotions are four Port Authority Police sergeants, elevated to the rank of lieutenant; five police officers to the rank of sergeant; and one detective to the rank of sergeant.
\"These law enforcement officers have bravely accepted the responsibility that comes with being a member of the Port Authority Police Department. Now, their hard work and dedication is being rewarded as they take on new responsibilities,\" said Charles D. De Rienzo, Port Authority Superintendent of Police/Director of Public Safety. \"These newly promoted members are being recognized for their outstanding commitment to law enforcement, and their leadership skills will serve our department well.\"
Inspector Smith joined the Port Authority Police Department in 1985 and has served as Captain at LaGuardia Airport since 2001. In his new post, Inspector Smith will continue to oversee daily police operations at the airport.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey operates some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the region. They include John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and Teterboro airports; the George Washington Bridge; the Lincoln and Holland tunnels; the three bridges between Staten Island and New Jersey; the PATH rapid-transit system; the Downtown Manhattan Heliport; Port Newark; the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal; the Howland Hook Marine Terminal on Staten Island; the Brooklyn Piers/Red Hook Container Terminal; and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan. The agency also owns the 16-acre World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan. The Port Authority is financially self-supporting and receives no tax revenue from either state.
