The nightly closing of all westbound lanes on the Outerbridge Crossing will resume on Monday, April 2, to allow work to continue on a $51.2 million project to rehabilitate the 72-year-old crossing.
To reduce inconvenience to Staten Island residents, the Port Authority will reopen the bridge two hours earlier on Saturday and Sunday mornings during summer months. No closings will occur on Memorial Day, Independence Day or Labor Day weekends.
Following is the schedule of hours when all westbound lanes of the bridge will be closed. During these times, westbound traffic will be diverted to the Goethals Bridge.
· April 2 - May 24 and September 4 - November 15: Monday to Thursday, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday, 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday. Saturday, 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday.
· May 29 - August 30: Monday to Thursday, 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday, 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday. Saturday, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday.
The three-year, $51.2 million Outerbridge Crossing project involves repairs to 135,000 square feet of the bridge\'s concrete deck, replacement of roadway joints and a new asphalt riding surface on the bridge deck.
