TRAFFIC ADVISORY - THOUSANDS OF MOTORCYCLISTS TO PARTICIPATE IN GOOCH’S GARLIC RUN THROUGH HOLLAND TUNNEL WEDNESDAY

Date: Jun 15, 2004
Press Release Number: 77-2004

The Holland Tunnel will remain open to traffic tomorrow night, June 16, when nearly 2,000 motorcyclists will travel through the tunnel en route from Morris County, N.J., to Little Italy in Manhattan as part of the 17th Annual Gooch’s Garlic Run.

The run raises money for children fighting catastrophic illnesses. It begins at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall at 6:30 p.m., and proceeds to the Holland Tunnel into New York.

Motorists are advised that the north side of 12th Street in Jersey City will be closed from about 7 to 7:45 p.m. to accommodate participants entering the tunnel. The two far left lanes of the toll plaza will be dedicated for the benefit run’s use.

Since the run’s inception 17 years ago, the Port Authority, which operates the Holland Tunnel, has worked closely with organizers to make the event a success. Last year’s run generated more than $53,000. This year, the money will help pay for five children from four families to receive treatment for their illnesses.
