MEDIA ADVISORY - PORT AUTHORITY SCHEDULES PUBLIC MEETINGS TO DISCUSS ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW FOR WTC TRANSPORTATION HUB

Date: Jun 16, 2004
Press Release Number: 78-2004

Public Comments on Proposed World-Class Transportation Facility Will be Heard at Sessions in Jersey City and Manhattan

The Port Authority has scheduled two public meetings to discuss the environmental review for the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, a project being developed in cooperation with the Federal Transit Administration. Key components of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Permanent World Trade Center PATH Terminal will be presented.

This project would seamlessly link a Permanent World Trade Center PATH Terminal with New York City subways and Battery Park City ferries, as well as other locations on and adjacent to the World Trade Center site.

During the meetings, the public can provide comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the project. Copies of the document are available online at www.panynj.gov/pathrestoration.

The proposed transportation hub would include a Permanent World Trade Center PATH Terminal with a track and platform level, a mezzanine level, and access to streets surrounding the World Trade Center site. It also would include underground pedestrian connections to New York City subway stations on the 1/9, N, R and E lines, and possible connections to the 2, 3, 4, 5, J, M, Z, A and C routes at the proposed Fulton Street Transit Center. The project design concept by Santiago Calatrava was unveiled in January 2004 by New York Governor George E. Pataki.
