About 250 police officers from across the country will assemble at Ground Zero at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, to begin a 300-mile bicycle tour to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. The annual tour kicks off National Police Week, May 12 to 19.
Fourteen officers from the Port Authority Police Department, which lost 37 of its members on 9/11, will participate in this year’s tour. The cyclists will depart from the World Trade Center after a brief ceremony and will ride to Washington, D.C., over a span of three days.
Port Authority Police Chief Christopher Trucillo will address the cyclists and be joined by the Port Authority Police Pipes and Drums and Honor Guard.
Media wishing to cover this event should go to Gate 7, at the corner of Liberty and Washington streets. Media will not be allowed to enter the World Trade Center site, but will be able to record video and take photographs through an open gate.
