The Port Authority and Phoenix Constructors, JV – the construction manager/general contractor for the World Trade Center Transportation Hub – will host a conference on June 15 to highlight potential contracting opportunities on the $2.2 billion project for minority-owned, women-owned and general subcontractors.
The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 102 North End Ave., in Manhattan. Key staff from the Port Authority and Phoenix Constructors, JV will attend. Participants will be given information on contracting, pre-qualification, certification, insurance and bonding requirements.
The Transportation Hub is being designed by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, and will link PATH, New York City subways and ferries via underground passageways. Construction on the transportation hub began in September 2005 and the new facility will be opened in 2009.
Phoenix Constructors, JV is a consortium comprised of Fluor Enterprises, Inc., Slattery Skanska, Inc., Granite Northeast Construction Company, Inc. and Bovis Lend Lease LMB, Inc.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey operates many of the busiest and most important transportation links in the region. They include John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and Teterboro airports; AirTrain JFK and AirTrain Newark; the George Washington Bridge and Bus Station; the Lincoln and Holland tunnels; the three bridges between Staten Island and New Jersey; the PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) rapid-transit system; the Port Authority-Downtown Manhattan Heliport; Port Newark; the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal; the Howland Hook Marine Terminal on Staten Island; the Brooklyn Piers/Red Hook Container Terminal; and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan. The agency also owns the 16-acre World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan.
The Port Authority is financially self-supporting and receives no tax revenue from either state.
