During its meeting this morning, the Port Authority Board of Commissioners took action on several items related to facilities operated by the bistate agency.

In addition to votes to review the future of the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the following actions were taken:

  • Authorized $4.5 million for planning work through Stage II design for the replacement and upgrade of three PATH power substations and two switching stations.

  • Authorized the filing of an application with the Foreign Trade Zone Board for the establishment of a subzone at the In Mocean Group, LLC wholesale distribution facility in North Brunswick, N.J.

  • Authorized the award of a $160.65 million contract to Benson Industries Inc., for the manufacture and installation of the curtain wall fa├žade for the Freedom Tower. The authorization includes an additional $5 million for continued Freedom Tower design services to Skidmore Owings & Merrill.

  • Authorized the award of a contract for the purchase, fabrication and installation of below-grade structural steel to Owen Steel Company for the World Trade Center Memorial and World Trade Center infrastructure projects in an amount not to exceed $58.9 million. The authorization is contingent upon the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation assigning its contract for construction management services with Bovis Lend Lease to the Port Authority, and its commitment of $46.1 million for portions of the Owens steel contract associated with the Memorial project.
