MEDIA ADVISORY PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: POLICE UNITY BIKE TOUR
TO DEPART FROM WORLD TRADE CENTER
Date: May 07, 2007
Press Release Number: 35-2007
About 80 police officers from across the country will assemble at Ground Zero at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, to begin a 300-mile bicycle tour to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. The annual tour kicks off National Police Week, May 13 to 20.
Fourteen officers from the Port Authority Police Department, which lost 37 of its members on 9/11, will participate in this year’s tour. The cyclists will depart from the World Trade Center after a brief ceremony and will ride to Washington, D.C., over a span of three days. The tour raises awareness for the sacrifices made by police across the country, and also supports fundraising efforts for the law enforcement memorial. To date, more than $3.5 million has been raised.
Port Authority Police Chief Christopher Trucillo will address the cyclists and be joined by the Port Authority Police Pipes and Drums and Honor Guard.
Media wishing to cover this event should go to Church and Vesey streets adjacent to the World Trade Center PATH station entrance.
