Queens West

map of location

Rising on approximately 50 acres of prime waterfront property directly across from midtown Manhattan, the Queens West Waterfront Development is one of New York City's most exciting mixed-use projects.

Project Overview

Ideally located at Hunters Point, Queens, directly across the East River from the United Nations, this joint public and private sector effort, Queens West, is reinvigorating a spectacular waterfront that overlooks one of the world's most recognizable skylines.

Panoramic views stretching from the Upper East Side to downtown Manhattan combine with outstanding transportation access, beautifully landscaped parks and recreational areas, and a superb development plan to provide an unparalleled location for residents and retailers.

The development consists of:

  • Two pre-K through 8th grade public schools with 17,000 students,
  • Twelve acres of public parkland,
  • Ten residential buildings containing 4,700 units,
  • 170,000 square feet of retail space, and
  • The future home of a new Queens Library branch

Project Sponsors

Queens West is a joint project sponsored by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and the New York Empire State Development Corporation, in cooperation with the Queens Borough President. The  Queens West Development Corporation (QWDC), a subsidiary of the Empire State Development Corporation, was established in 1992 to facilitate implementation of the approved development plan. The four-member QWDC Board of Directors, two from each sponsor, plays an instrumental role in formulating policy and authorizing major actions.
