About the Port Authority
The World Trade Center

The WTC site, located in Lower Manhattan in the historic downtown core of New York City, consists of the original 16-acre parcel bounded by Liberty, Church and Vesey streets and Route 9A (West Street), and supplemented by two adjoining blocks to the south.

On behalf of the people of New York and New Jersey, the Port Authority continues the important work of revitalizing Lower Manhattan through the investments it makes, the jobs it generates, and by developing and operating safe, efficient transportation facilities. With respect and remembrance of what was before and in lasting tribute to those whose lives were taken on September 11, 2001, the Port Authority pledges itself to the redevelopment of The World Trade Center.

The WTC plan includes five new skyscrapers (1 WTC, Freedom Tower; Towers 2, 3, 4, and 5) the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center, the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, the WTC Retail Complex and a Performing Arts Center.

The Port Authority of NY & NJ, a bistate public agency is responsible for building the largest projects at The World Trade Center site — One World Trade Center, the Freedom Tower, and The World Trade Center Transportation Hub. In addition, the Port Authority controls the development of the Memorial. Memorial Museum and Tower 5, creating a retail program including 500,000 square feet of retail space and building critical site infrastructure and the vehicular security center that will serve the entire World Trade Center complex.
