Detours and Street Closures

Street Closures

BAYONNE, NEW JERSEY

The streets listed below will be closed around-the-clock during the period noted unless otherwise stated. Residents will continue to have access to their homes at all times and can enter from JFK Boulevard or Avenue A – no thru traffic is permitted under the bridge. Other street closures may be scheduled on an as-needed basis.

  • Margaret Street, between West 4th Street and Bayview Court, is closed to through traffic until 2019
  • Gertrude Street, between Avenue A and JFK Boulevard, is closed to through traffic until May 2018
  • West 3rd Street, between Avenue A and JFK Boulevard, is closed to through traffic until mid-late 2018
  • West 1st Street, between Avenue A and JFK Boulevard, is closed to through traffic until fall 2018.
STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK
  • Richmond Terrace, between Newark Avenue and Morningstar Road, is closed weeknights, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning, through April 30, 2018
  • Innis Street, between Morningstar Road and Eaton Place, will be closed weeknights, starting at 9 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 until 5 a.m. the following morning.This closure is expected to last 1-2 weeks. During this overnight closure, the ongoing overnight closure of Richmond Terrace will be suspended.

Detours

Staten Island Ramp Closures

To further advance construction, the Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project requires closure of certain on- and off-ramps that connect the bridge to local Staten Island streets

Off-Ramp Closure

Travelers who normally exit southbound Route 440 using Exit 13-Richmond Terrace/Trantor Place, will now use Exit 12-Forest Ave and Willow Road for local street access.

On-Ramp Closure

Travelers who use the Richmond Terrace/Trantor Place on-ramp to access the Bayonne Bridge, will now take Port Richmond Avenue south to Trantor Place to access the Forest Avenue on-ramp, which leads to the bridge.

Bayonne Ramp Closures

On-Ramp Closure

Travelers who normally use the Avenue A on-ramp will now follow the detour to the JFK Boulevard on-ramp.

Bayonne Staten Island-Bound JFK Boulevard On-Ramp Closure Map

Off-Ramp Closure

Travelers who normally use the JFK Boulevard off-ramp will now use the exit for East 5th Street.
